GTA 5 hits the Guinness World Records 2014

Grand Theft Auto 5 has broken seven Guinness World Records, including the record for selling the most amount of units within 24 hours and being the fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion.

Since being released on September 17, the fifth title in the Grand Theft Auto franchise has enjoyed huge sales figures, and managed to generate more revenue than movies such as The Avengers and Avatar.

GTA 5 now holds the following records:

1. Best-selling action-adventure video game in 24 hours
2. Best-selling video game in 24 hours
3. Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion
4. Fastest video game to gross $1 billion
5. Highest grossing video game in 24 hours
6. Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours
7. Most viewed trailer for an action-adventure video game

GTA 5 launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17, generating over $1b worth of revenue within its first 72 hours. Despite its extraordinary sales the game continues to sell well week-on-week, placing at no.2 in this week's All-Format Chart.
